On May 10th, 2024, SpaceX achieved yet another milestone in its ambitious efforts to blanket the globe with high-speed internet connectivity from space. A powerful Falcon 9 rocket thundered into the skies above Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, carrying a payload of SpaceX launches 20 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit.
The launch, which occurred at 6:14 PM local time, marked the company’s 69th dedicated Starlink mission since the project’s inception. With this latest batch of satellites joining the ever-expanding mega-constellation, SpaceX has now deployed over 4,000 Starlink nodes into orbit – a staggering number that continues to grow with each successful launch.
Reusability Pays Dividends
True to SpaceX’s core principles of innovation and cost-effectiveness, the Falcon 9 rocket that carried the Starlink payload aloft was a veteran of multiple previous missions. The first stage, which detached and returned to Earth shortly after liftoff, had already flown on six previous occasions before being refurbished and pressed into service once again.
